D 2104 - Model 03

In this model, I want to keep the flow of the module. The continuation of the field states the unity of the overall space.

The conceptual idea is shown as the light and integrated force of nature.

D 2104 - Sketch Design

Sketches of the final model - emphasis of the point of view from the jogging ground view; accessibility for elder and circulation is still beding considered.

D 2104 - Model 02

This is the model 02 - developed from model 01. In this project, I tried to create the shape and form first rather than concentrating on the conceptual and funtional ideas.

This model is the general idea of how people would circulate around the space. The areas are divided as user would define them by means of circulation. The form came out to be the gradation of solid to void, which is good!

This then would be integrated with the triangular module - as wall or roof. However miscalculations delay much of the work progress.

The formal development - from quadelateral to circular. This would connect parts together more easily and have a nicer feel of fan. The intergration of the module is considered.

D 2104 - Model 01

The very first design is the composition of different rectangular leyers creating graphic plans and sections. The expandable tensile structure was added to give the shading as well as act as softener to keep the idea of static and dynamic forces.

The sketch design after the development of model 01. Circulation is considered.

D 2104 - Design Collage/Sculpture

The sculpture is composed of the egg shells sitting on the triangular modular field which would be used in the design. The chopsticks stands out with the motion of the fan.

The ideas: gentleness and strength, emotion and concentration, static and dynamic forces

D 2104 - Site Analysis

Site Analysis:
The Fan Dancing Group has the site on the right portion of the lower central piece of land. They usually dance infront of this site. My job is to integrate their activities into the piece of land.

Existings:
Trees and Rocks - the ground is basically grass and mud

Lighting and Ventilation:
Sun rises in the east that is the lower left side of the site;
the Wind blows from the SE to NW.

Activities:
Fan Dancers use the space from 5.oo - 8.00 hrs. however, they only perform fan dancing at 7.30 hr. After dancing, they would sit around and take some tea and socialize. Fan Dancing is a very graceful activity. It require people to use their senses to the fullest - to observ nature, to listen to the song lyrics, to follow the leader.

D 2104

Objectives and Requirements:
Drawing upon understandings of the essential nature of Ground, Wall, and Roof, the objective is to create an environmental which enhances the activities of your chosen user group. An important goal for this project is to nurture an awareness of how space, form, articulation and composition of architectural elements may work to enhance the experience of the place for the users.

An essential component of the project is an open shelter (including a roof) to give the users a place to rest, eat, drink, and socialize. It may also function as a place for some of the group to practice their activity when it is raining (except for boating.) When the activity group is not using the shelter, it should be open to the general public for picnicking, relaxing, etc. Some functions of the program may be integrated within the shelter while some may be detached (see Program Elements below)

For the activities of Sword and Fan Dancing and Tai-Chi, a hard-surfaced area should be provided away from the street to perform their exercise.3 A soft surface (grass or other material) may be needed for the practice of Yoga. The shelter for boating may be built on the land, over the water or both.

We are summing a membership of 16 users for the purpose of the project.

Program, Elements
- a covered , open-air activity/ gathering area – size based on the activity of the club.
- a simple kitchenette for making tea, snacks and possibly needles . This should include a place for washing dishes etc.
- restroom with 1 toilet and 1 sink for women and men
- shower and small dressing room with a sink. One each for women and men.
- 16 half or full height lockers. (may be stack 2 high)
- storage as required for the chosen activity.
- housekeeping/ caretaker’s area

program items such as the kitchenette, showers, storage, and housekeeping should be sealed off or locked when not being used by the activity group. The total area under roof should not exceed 100 square meters and may be much smaller.

Assignment:
Building upon the activity & site investigation/analysis, collage/object, conceptual diagrams and sketches which should be complete at this point – work out the initial sketch design. Sketch plan, section and elevations along with a study model (all at 1:50 scale) should be finished by 1:00 PM November 16, 07 The drawings and model should be considered parts of the design process – not merely as items to be produced for a deadline. Certain areas of the model, plan, section and elevations – possibly together with perspectives or isometrics/axonometrics – should be worked on alternately as your concept evolves and your ideas tested. This is not to be a formal presentation, but rather your design in process.
